A senior officer in the Democratic Republic of Congo has used the military to illegally profit from a gold mine, sources have told the BBC.

<strong>The BBC has evidence that Gen Gabriel Amisi Kumba installed a mining firm at the Omate mine in return for a 25% cut.</strong>Following a mining ban in September, production is continuing at the mine under direct military control.

La BBC a la preuve que Gabriel Amisi Kumba Gen installé une société minière à la mine Omate en échange d'une commission de 25%.

Après l'interdiction des mines en Septembre, la production se poursuit à la mine sous contrôle militaire direct.

L’ONU demande une enquête contre Amisi


Les Nations unies regrettent que le général Amisi ait été blanchi des accusations de trafics d'armes par une commission composée notamment des soldats de l’armée congolaise.
L'ONU estime qu'il y a toujours un besoin d'ouvrir une enquête judiciaire pour vérifier les accusations qu'elle a portées contre le général Amisi.

Selon des défenseurs des droits de l’Homme, le général Amisi aurait participé Mi-mai 2002 au massacre de civils opposés à l'occupation par les rebelles.
Les exactions perpétrées à l'époque ont fait l'objet de deux rapports publics adressés au Conseil de Sécurité.
En novembre 2012, un groupe d'experts de l'ONU a publié un rapport montrant que le général Amisi, surnommé "Tango Fort", "contrôlait un réseau de distribution de munitions de chasse à destination de braconniers et de groupes armés" dans l'Est de la RDC.
L’ONU estime également qu'une enquête devrait être menée sur des violations graves des droits de l'homme commises en mai 2002 à Kisangani (Nord-Est).
A cette époque, le général Amisi, actuellement chef d’état-major de l’armée de terre, était un responsable au sein de la rébellion Rassemblement congolais pour la démocratie (RCD).

A senior officer in the Democratic Republic of Congo has used the military to illegally profit from a gold mine, sources have told the BBC.

The BBC has evidence that Gen Gabriel Amisi Kumba installed a mining firm at the Omate mine in return for a 25% cut. Following a mining ban in September, production is continuing at the mine under direct military control.
 The general refused to answer questions about his role and the firm involved, Geminaco, denies there was a deal. The lure of profits from mines in eastern DR Congo has turned the area into a battlefield. Rebels target civilians in the surrounding villages near the border with Rwanda and Uganda and there have been reports of kidnapping, massacres and mass rapes, fuelled by the profits from minerals. The military was sent in to suppress the rebels and ensure security for the local people.
